Being on the south coast, Eastbourne is favoured with a generally mild climate, lower rainfall than average and extra sunshine - and hopefully it may even be warm enough for a little sunbathing! It is further sheltered on the north and west by the 'South Downs'. The town is on the level, making for easy strolls to the pleasant, modern shopping area, along the elegant seafront with the magnificent carpet gardens which are international prizewinners, and to the well maintained Victorian pier, one of the country's finest.
The Imperial is an impressive Victorian hotel, well situated at the seaward end of Devonshire Place, an attractive tree-lined boulevard, less than a five minute walk from the amenities and shops in the town centre, and across the road from the promenade and bandstand. All rooms are en-suite, with TV, telephone and hot drink making facilities. An English breakfast and choices of appetising, freshly prepared evening dinner menus are all served in the refurbished Majestic Restaurant. Entertainment may be provided with music for dancing some evenings. Two lifts serve all floors.
During our stay, we include two excursions, which may include Battle, named after the Battle of Hastings in 1066 with the ruins of Battle Abbey standing near the site and a visit to the fascinating Carr Taylor Vineyards, a day to the Roman city of Chichester, with fine examples of architecture from mediæval to modern times, or a short tour via the cliffs of Beachy Head to the quaint village of Alfriston.
